when i try to use yum i get this message

[root@sherman1 ~]# yum update
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Setting up Update Process
Setting up repositories
updates [1/3]
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/updates/5/i386/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (111, 'Connection refused')>
Trying other mirror.
Cannot open/read repomd.xml file for repository: updates
failure: repodata/repomd.xml from updates: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.
Error: failure: repodata/repomd.xml from updates: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.

I then found out that my proxy wasn't set and i set it correctly and now i am getting this error message
[root@sherman1 ~]# yum -y update

What proxy are you using? I think you may have put a special character in there you shouldn't have like a '@'.

In /etc/yum.conf, try:

proxy=http://server:port

Worked for me.
