Why do I get this warning going into /fstab?................

[des@localhost ~]$ su
Password:
[root@localhost des]# gedit /etc/fstab

(gedit:2757): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.
[root@localhost des]#

instead su,type
su -

...Because you don't want just anyone taking over fuill control of your box :-)


So what is the difference between su and su -

"su -" not only changes you into the super-user, it also gives you the super-user's login environment. "su" alone changes your identity, but you keep your environment.

when you type su and then type root password you have root privilleges but the directory is not changed,
when su - you have root priveleges and the directory changes for mre open terminal and type:
info su
