I want to be able to input Japanese on my Linux computer using Fedora Core 5. I installed the SCIM and the Japanese language support on top of the base installation, which is in English. However, it doesn't seem to do anything. I've just been searching through the forums here for help, and tried making a link to .xinput.d/default, but still it does nothing. I also read the release notes for Fedora Core 5 but still I can't find a fix. Also, the System > Preferences > More preferences > SCIM Input Method Setup doesn't seem to do anything. I have a Japanese keyboard and I would like to be able to press the zenkaku/hankaku key to get input working.

Can anyone give me any pointers or clues about what might be going wrong?

OK, I fixed it myself. I should have tried logging out and logging back in again.
