View Full Version : RAID5 Array Crashes

27th April 2006, 01:31 AM
I have been having problems with my closet file server crashing randomly. It generally works ok but under heavy read/write it will totally freeze sometimes. After swapping almost every single component to no affect, I finally narrowed it down so I can induce a crash by extracting a large RAR archive on the mapped network drive (2TB raid5 Samba share over gigE). This leads me to beleive the problem is the RAID array. It works fine on the OS drive, but it crashes the machine every time on the RAID array. There is nothing left by Syslog when it crashes, only a screen dump. I have made a picture of the screen dump. I'm using the latest driver. I have no idea what the screen dump stuff means, any ideas?

Highpoit 1820A
Fedora Core 4 2.6.11
Open Source Linux Driver (latest)
ADM + APCI disabled
Syslog full logging = no errors
Crashes with both Samba and FTP, 100mbit and 1000mbit.
Everything else is fine, only heavy access on RAID5 array makes it crash.
tried everything, out of ideas...
