View Full Version : fedora startup? why so many things....

i was just wondering...
Which out of the many many things are neccisary at start up? that long list that it goes through seems much too long. I know this is sort of general, but any suggestion on thigs any one else does with out? or is there a site that explains all of them and such? im pritty new... so many of them i have no idea what they do.

Well, most of the running processes have a reason to be, but you can open System->Administration->Services, take a note of which services are scheduled to run at boot (the ones which are ticked) and then post a brief description of what you intend to do with your box. That could help someone to advise on which are really needed and which ones can be safely shut off.

There are some guides on disabling services on this board available, afaik. Use the search tool and you will find more than enough info on that topic. :)

PS: Yes, there are imho way too many services enabled by default for a desktop or laptop machine.
