I downloaded the FC5 kernel source rpm and install it with the normal rpm -ivh command. The system build the directory in the /root directory:confused: . That is the rpmbuild directory is in root directory, so when I use rpmbuild to build the source, they are installed in the /root directory. Is there any way to override this and have the source installed in the /usr/src/redhat.... directory?

Thanks in advance

Alex

Why? I like creating rpmbuild directories in home directories. They enable building as non root user.

I just want to stick to the old way of doing things. (Even it is consider unsafe, I do not really care) .

As a side topic, after I upgraded to FC5, I started to seriously consider to switch back to Windows. Now Linux is a moving target, it moves so fast that i am having trouble to catch up. This may be good for the kernel developer to try out new things, but as an user and application program developer point of view, it just does not make sense.
