I keep trying to install the flash plugin for firefox, it downloads and it looks like it has installed but it doesn't work and i'm still asked to install it again even after restarting firefox.

Try this:
http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_5_installation_notes.html#Flash (FC5)
or
http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_4_installation_notes.html#Flash (FC4)

remove the flash plugin and then reinstall it,
rpm -e flash-plugin
the above remove the flash-plugin
and then reinstall it as Stanton Finley's notes

SELinux is actually preventing Flash to get installed properly. You'll have to configure it a bit.

Edit: This post (http://forums.fedoraforum.org/forum/showpost.php?p=481017&postcount=11) has everything you wanna know. ;)

@ Cripou

Since you have turned off SELinux, just visit a flash site with your Firefox, and it should install Flash for you.

It's the Magic. You'll find it only in Linux. :p
