I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 running Fedora Core 5 with no issues. The only thing bugging me is the fact that DVD playback (movies) is very choppy. I know it has to do with setting DMA on the CD/DVD drive, however I believe that since it is SATA this is not possible. This was an issue with FC4 as well, however someone rolled a kernel that fixes it. Unfortunately I can not recall what/where it was. Is there a fix for FC5? I can't believe this still isn't fixed by the Fedora group. Thanks in advance!!

If you guys are still having this problem here is what fixed it for me on my Inspiron 9300

As root edit:
open /etc/modprobe.conf and add the following line:
options ide-cd dma=1

*note make sure there is a line break after the last line

As root edit:
open /boot/grub/menu.lst
Add this extra boot option "ide1=noprobe" before "rhgb quite"
If the previous doesn't work try one of the following
hda=noprobe hdc=noprobe where hdc is your dvd drive

Hope this helps ...
