View Full Version : can I upgrade fedora from 4 to 5 directly

sorry this may be a stupid question.

I mean upgrade in fedora4 environment without burn anther serveral fedora 5 CD and reinstall all the applications I have already installed.

I think you will find it won't work very well at all. There have been other posts here with lots of problems after attempting this.

If your network connection is fairly good you can just burn a boot-only CD with the boot.iso in the images/ directory of any mirror, which is about 6Mb in size. This boots a system and lets you specify an installation source - you can pick HTTP and install or upgrade directly from a mirror server.

Its certainly possible, but whether it works out perfectly is another issue. You can download the fedora-release rpm for FC5 and install that. After that do "yum upgrade yum" and then "yum upgrade".

ok, thank you guys, I think now I perfer to having a clean installation.
