View Full Version : need user access to /dev/mem how do I do that?

3rd April 2006, 05:35 PM

I have installed i810switch so I can hook my laptop up to projectors (I'm hoping it works).

Anyway - when I try and run i810switch I get the following error message:
[chrisbs@cpq-fed ~]$ i810switch
/dev/mem: Permission denied
Must have access to `/dev/mem'.

How do I give my normal user access to /dev/mem? Or do I always need to be root in order to do this? I can run the program as root and it runs just fine. I just don't want to have to su - just to turn on / off i810switch.

Thanks. Chris
