Hi there.

I'm pretty new to linux.

I am booting my server, running Fedora Core 3 in graphical mode. Upon enterign my unsername and password, instead of starting x and logging into GNOME, i am confronted with an xterm window. Can i clear this so i can login as normal?

Did you install Gnome ?
You are in text mode at all ?

Yes, Gnome is installed. I can login via text mode as root no worries, but when i try to startx i an taken to a graphical screen with xterm

thats just X. if you have gnome or any other gui installed, you should be able to get it going by typing the start script in that terminal. i forget what the name is for gnome. probably gnome-??? something or rather. i use blackbox normally. if you figure it out, you can have it start automatically by adding that same command to the .xinitrc file in your home dir
