Hey everyone,

I'm a relative newbie, and I'm having some path troubles with FC5. I installed Nessus 3 and the Nessus 3 GUI client software from Nessus using the official RPMs for both nessus server and client. I cannot seem to figure out how to add nessus to root's path permanently. I'm used to Ubuntu, actually, not FC, so I need your help. Explicit instructions, please. I'm new at this.

nessus lives in /opt/nessus

I also cannot figure out how to invoke the GUI client to connect to nessus server. There is no mention of this AT ALL in the client documentation.

Thanks,

rocu

As for nessus, I don't even know what it is.
About the "path issue": become root wit "su -", open with a text editor the file /root/.bash_profile (notice the dot: it's a hidden file) and edit the line starting with "PATH" adding the full path to the directory containing the binaries you are interested in, for instance

PATH=$PATH:/opt/nessus

then save the file and run

source .bash_profile
source .bashrc

the changes are permanent.

nessus is a security scanner.

Probably adding that to the path will make finding the executables easier, just nessus and hit tab in the terminal for tab completion.
