How do you query a dvd drive to get the speed and modes it supports? Also how do you get the manufacturer ID code of disk?

Thanks.

Hi:
There may be other ways....however if you have K3b installed just go to the menu Settings /Configure K3b , click on devices and have a look. It will give most, if not all the information that you asked about.

type in a terminal
hdparm -i /dev/hdc (or use the hd(x) letter for your CD/DVD drive--mine is hdc
or type in
hdparm -I /dev/hdc
even better yet
man hdparm
and read all the info there----caution--some of the commands can lock/mess up/trash hard drives or any ide device.

Also, the dvd+rw-mediainfo program gives you info about the inserted dvd media; cdrecord/cdrdao have both options for displaying info obout inserted cds.
