Hi everybody

My system hangs at boot, and after trying to boot at run level 3 and logging in as root i have discovered that startx is the one that hangs it. I can run startx as root, but when i SU to another user i can not startx, i get error messages about "PAM authentication failed" and that perhaps i do not have access to console or something like that...

I have found some hints about uncommenting the first two rows in /etc/pam.d/xserver but that doesn't seem to do any good. Is there something else I can try?

This is exactly what was written when i tried to run startx:

Fatal server error PAM authentication failed,
cannot start X server
Perhaps you do not have console ownership
