Question I can't unpack and install programs

This is my first time so i hope i'm in the right forum.
I'm using red hat fedora project and have been following a guide book, but there are some things in the book that don't work so help.
i've downloaded the program 'flashplayer 7' to install as a plug in for mozilla however when i try unpacking the thing by typing 'tar xzf install_flash_player_7_linux.tar.gz' i get a big error message saying no such file name or directory. Ive tried unpacking and installing other progs but with similar results.
I'm logged in as root and i'm following the book as written so whats going wrong?

Where did you download the flash player to? Are you in this directory when typing tar etc?

I bet you saved the file that you downloaded to ~/Desktop and you tried to unpack it from your home directory, ~. So, try to change to wherever you downloaded it and unpack it from there. Assuming it is in ~/Desktop, do
Code:
cd ~/Desktop
tar xvzf install_flash_player_7_linux.tar.gz

The flash player is located at /home/rob/programs
I'm just opening a terminal window from my desktop, logging in as root and typing tar xzf install_flash_player_7_linux.tar.gz
as instructed in the book accoring to the book after typing this the directory install_flash_player_7_linux is created in which the flashplayer plugin is placed.
I am just getting the message tar (child): install_flash_player_7_linux.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
Whats goining on??

After logging in as root, do you change to the directory /home/rob/programs?

ok thanks so far i've figured out changing to the correct directory but now the next stage of the installation won't work.
The book says 'copy the fllash plug-in to the mozilla plug-ins directory:
type ... cp install _flash_player_7_linux/libflashplayer.so/usr/lib/mozilla-*/plug-ins
when i type this however i get .. cp: missing destination file
what to do next?

There shlould be a blank space between libflashplayer.so and /usr/lib/mozilla-*/plug-ins
But put the book aside for a moment and read this guide:

It works!
