How to get Ralink RT2500 drivers and get them working

While these drivers are not included (yet), they can be found at http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page.

I have had no success with any other drivers for this chipset. They have all failed at compile time. This driver works great (I grabbed the CVS tarball, but the normal verion should work too).

Unpack the drivers and cd to it
run these commands
1) make
2) su -c "make install"
3) su -c "make install-fedora"

You should be able to use the drivers right away (no reboot or modprobing). Check to see if it was found in your favourite network configuration tool. The device node should be /dev/wlan0.

I would like to note that only the CVS version works for FC5 above Test 3, the BETA 3 version can work with FC5 Test 3 and above but only with a patch applied, the patch can be found at http://www.dclam.com/share/param_patch_b3.txt
