How to Install Java plugin and Macromedia plugin on Firefox 1.5?

I am a newbie. I've tried quite a few times to install JRE and Macromedia Flash plugins, but without much success.

With Java plugin, I got the installation part completed, but dont know how to link to firefox. Dont know where (or which directory) firefox is located. And the instructions found on Java website do not address Firefox, just mozilla. Can somebody be kind enough to help out? Thanks.

Code:
whereis firefox
or
which firefox
will tell you where the executable is. If you installed with yum or rpm, the firefox dir is probably /usr/lib/firefox

Oh, yeah, by default, firefox should look in mozilla for plugins. If it doesn't work you can try to link it
to usr/lib/firefox/plugins (if that's where the firefox dir is).
