Question Mouse problems Upgrading from FC1 to FC4

Hello everyone,

I'm new to Linux and Fedora. I had recently purchased a beginner's book that came with discs for fedora core 1.

Today, while going through the installation for FC4 I started to have problems with my cursor, it flies to the bottom left corner and just generally won't move where it should.

I'm running a Dell C610 laptop with the touchpad mouse.

http://www.fedorafaq.org/#otherinstall -- this site recommends "booting the installer with one of the following commands:" and gives the command "linux i8042.nomux".

My question is, where exactly do I enter this command? When I put my disc in to start the install do I use the TUI instead of the graphical install?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

When you put the install 1 disk in and boot the machine it will come up with a command line prompt before it goes into the install mode. This is where you enter it.

Okay Thanks, found the place to enter the command. It seems to have improved the situation a little bit, but the cursor is still jumping around alot.

Is this something that I might be able to fix by running a yum update? Would that get newer drivers? ANyone have any other advice?

>> looks like I can't get through the post update configuration stuff. I get stuck on the options for configuring my LCD. Without the mouse working I can't select the options and move on. It seemed like when I installed FC1 it took me to some config options for mouse and keyboard. Does it do this in FC4? would that be a place I might be able to fix this?

Also, from skimming the forums I've noticed people mentioning "synaptic" drivers in connection to problems with the touchpad. Anyone know if this would help and how to do it?
