Cool Tough Terminal-login Question

Ok, this isn't actually a tough question: How do I, as a normal user, open the console and login as root?

Is super user different?

Open a terminal and sign in as "su -" , which gives you full root powers and effectively makes you root. "su" without the minus sign gives you root powers, but within user. Ahhh...just google the thing, it's better explained there.

Edit: Type "info su" in a terminal for details.

It took more time for you to enter that post than it would have to have typed "linux switch root" into google.

Actually I thought of doing just that, only to remember that almost every thread regarding linux has that string in it...no pun intended.

Google is powerful, it was worth attempting anyways.

Google search for "linux switch root" (no quotes) returns the following as its second result:

"Linux, Switch Different User, su command, root logon"

It's always worth checking. Enjoy su-ing
