Kino - Crashes When Controling My Sony MiniDV Camera

Kino crashes when i start to control my sony miniDV Camcorder, i click the play button in the AV Controls section, my camera does start to play on its own lcd screen, so the command to play is getting to it but immediatley the program crashes. I haver tried with my normal user and and as root.

What fc4 version are you using? I had the same problem with the x64 version.

I've had exactly the same problem with FC5, with a JVC mini DV Camcorder. After running kino from the terminal and seeing the seg fault dump when it crashes, I could see what was wrong. I needed to install libavcodec51. After doing this everything works perfect!

Hope that helps.

Hi there, what kernel options did you use I hava a Sony Mini DV camera, but I have to manualy press play (on the camera to get the capture going). The rest works like a charm.

I had a similiar problem with kino.
I resolved it going to Preferences >> Display and select GDK or "XVideo Reduced" [don't know if it's the right translation]. Try also with "Drop frames if necessary".

If it doesn't work, run kino from console and post the output.

I tried switching to GDK, and also turned on the preview function. It worked! But was a bit slow with the preview on. Then I switched it back to Xvideo as it was before and it still works!!!

So thats me done.

Anybody offer any interpretation of this? To my un-expert mind, it looks like a load of Gnome, GLIB and Gtk problems caused the segfault. Is there any way for me to resolve this?

Code:
[duncan@desktop ~]$ uname -r
2.6.16-1.2096_FC5
[duncan@desktop ~]$
Cheers
