Thumbs down Random processes or lack thereof!

I have FC4 installed along with winxp on my toshiba laptop. I don't know why but some random processes or just really annoying. For instance, when I plug in my usb flashdrive, FC4 recognizes and displays the contents for about 10 seconds or so and then the flashdrive flash completely dissappers. I can't mount it, nor with the kernel recognize that a USB drive is present anymore.

Another random USB process is I would have my usb mouse plugged and it will be working fine. After a couple of minutes the mouse pointer moves veeeery slowly compared to the mov't of the actual mouse. They are both completely out of sync. But after I restart they seem to work fine for the short times described above. I guess, it is not so random given only the usb drives are giving me a headache. However, there is nothing with the drives themselves since they work fine in windows.

Oh and another thing...the simple cp command is not working for me either, anymore. It says the "bash: c: command not found" - where is the 'p'? even though the cp path is added to the PATH variable. Could someone please let me know whats GOING on? Am I doing something terribly wrong?

I don't think its a virus since I do not have a net connection yet. Thanx in advanz.
