Screen Problem on Acer Travelmate

I have an Acer Travelmate 2410-series (2413LCi to be exact).
Been having some trouble with the screen. It only shows 800x600. Haven't found any drivers or anything about how to configure. Any help is appreciated

Post the results of this part of your xorg.conf file. Open terminal and type "cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf <enter>"
Copy the section and post it here that matches mine as you see below.

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "Dell D1025TM"
DisplaySize 330 240
HorizSync 30.0 - 85.0
VertRefresh 50.0 - 120.0
Option "dpms"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "radeon"
VendorName "Videocard vendor"
BoardName "ATI Radeon 9000"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Videocard0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 16
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 16
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"

If nothing other than 800x600 is listed above, you won't have any other choices. This also lists drivers used and such and will be helpful in determining the problem.

Here's the paste from the file. I know that this screen can show 1024x768 so it must be a way...

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "Unknown monitor"
HorizSync 31.5 - 37.9
VertRefresh 50.0 - 70.0
Option "dpms"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "vesa"
VendorName "Videocard"
BoardName "Intel bjaffs 1"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Videocard0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 16
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 16
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection

I see from above that FC has installed the "vesa" video drivers and as I thought, "800x600" is the greatest resolution that it will let you run.

Search Google for linux driver for your Acer Travelmate. I see it has an intel chip, although I'm not sure which one.

If you want to manually edit this you should copy the xorg.conf file to another name like "xorg.conf.mine".

Then open and terminal and su to root permissions. Enter "gedit /etc/X11/oxrg.conf" and when it opens you can change the Driver under the Device section to "vga". This will be the generic vga driver. Next, add the mode "1024x768" in front of the 800x600 entry for Modes.

Save this file and then log out and log back in. If your machines works okay with these generic settings that will get you by. You can then attempt to move to 1024x768.

If it crashed and X won't start. Open a terminal to repair it, go to su again and cp the "xorg.conf.mine" to "xorg.conf" and restart X by entering "startx".

This should get you back to where you are today if the manual edit doesn't work. If you can find the appropriate driver, still save the file in case of crash and install follwoing the directions that come with the driver hopefully.

Goodluck

Well we tried. If there is someone more expert that I that can help you identify the chipset that the video is using, you should be able to Google and search this forum to find the right driver.
