Just installed: I only have http access to redhat.com???

I can access rehat.com and all of its subpages... but can't get into any other sites like google.com? Why on earth would it be that way? Any thoughts?

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you are actually looking at the Fedora pages stored on the hard drive (I think they are the default for Firefox). Which would make me think that you aren't really connected to the internet. If that's not what's going on, it's quite a strange situation.

can you ping other sites? it could be that your etc/resolv.conf doesnt have the correct entries for your name servers.

It's not a hard-drive version of thage; I know that because I can use the site's search feature. I can't ping other sites. How would I find out the correct name servers?

try this, click. -k-system settings-security level- and disable the firewall. try again. if it's good then you have a permissions boggle, if not ensure that you don't have anything that prevents access to IP's outside of a 'range'. i.e. router configuration or something.
