maybe a chat server incorparated...

Sometimes it is easier to use a chat session to help users out. maybe incorparating a chat session and posting the chat log to the thread they are comming from would be beneficial.
A speeds up the problem solving
B still documents the steps involved.

Just a idea trying to help make this site the best support forum available wth all tools available.

I noticed a lot of people on fedora mailing lists trying to organize chat times for differnt projects they have..

it could be useful to have a calender event schedualer, that allows people to enter a chat interface during a certain time, on a specified date by the initiator - . then whatever is said is logged during those times, so no one is responsable for logging .. and the entire event can be posted as a forum post where it was created.

so like. for instance.. if people are curious abotu fedora core 4 and want information directly from users on how to install it.. someone can host like an "install party event from 2pm -4pm EST, (new york time) -5gmt) .. for these 2 hours. people will enter and ask questions to various people hosting the chat. and when it's done. it'll close up and the forum post will be generated. anyone associated with the chat will be able to continue the discussion of the event on that post.

that would be really cool

We are always looking at new ideas for the Forum and some will be implemented when Ewdi has the opportunity. This is one of many, many projects that he is involved in and certainly it cannot always take front & center stage. Keep in mind though, that those little icons under your name indicate that you already participate in a number of chat clients, as do many other members. There is nothing to hold you back from getting a chat going with members to work through problems outside of the Forum.

if it was incorporated into the site, like you know how it shows users online, yeah - that would be nice to tie directly into a client ..

my big concern is that the client is built into the site, java based or something, because honestly, I use a lot of corporate computers that we're not allowed to install jabber clients or any kinda software .. yeah..

bantu is java based if you havent seen that before.

our corporate network uses it.

#fedora on freenode.net IRC already is a thriving Fedora support resource, and there are others as well.

I think we should focus on being a web forum.

You can put IM nicknames in your profile, just not IRC nicks.

I hate chat servers, too much politics. lets just stick with a forum and let ppl find they're own communitys to chit-chat realtime in.
