Madwifi

Hi,
I'm trying to get my dwl-g520m to work with madwifi but the trouble is that when i run "wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode sta" I get "wlanconfig: ioctl: No such device", but if I use lspci -v I get:

"02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc.: Unknown device 0020 (rev 01)
Subsystem: D-Link System Inc: Unknown device 3a68
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 10
Memory at fcfe0000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=128K]
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2"

I tried to search google and found:
http://www.mail-archive.com/madwifi-.../msg01022.html
I tried to fix my hwconf and such but it didnt work, at reboot it resets. And in my hwconf file it is labeled eth1 but i dont think that is important

If been following this guide: http://madwifi.org/wiki/UserDocs/FirstTimeHowTo
but i dont see wifi0 ,ath0 or eth1 if i use iwconfig.
I hope someone can help me. I run fedora core 4.

///Roy

try removing the madwifi you installed by typing
Code:
make uninstall
in ithe madwifi source you downloaded. Then install the livna package. if you don't have livna create /etc/yum.repos.d/livna.repo and add this to it
Code:
[livna]
name=Fedora Core 4 - i386 - livna
baseurl=http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/$releasever/$basearch/RPMS.lvn
failovermethod=priority
enabled=0
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=http://rpm.livna.org/RPM-LIVNA-GPG-KEY
then install madwifi by typing
Code:
yum install kernel-module-madwifi-$(uname -r) --enablerepo=livna
then open system-config-network and you should be able to add a new wireless device and yours should be listed there.

You should note that anytime you install a new kernel you will also have to install madwifi again, but using livna it's easy.

I tried this and it worked well untill I checked if I was able to load the card in system-config-network. I did some searching and found

Code:
Generic Package Instructions (Livna)

Make sure you have the latest kernel (ie yum update kernel)

reboot

Add livna to your yum update (create /etc/yum.repos.d/livna.repo) and add this to the blank text box:

[livna]
name=Fedora Core 4 - i386 - livna
baseurl=http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/4/i386/RPMS.lvn
failovermethod=priority
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=http://rpm.livna.org/RPM-LIVNA-GPG-KEY

then type (as root): yum install kernel-module-madwifi-$(uname -r)

finanlly do:

modprobe ath_pci
(Found at http://madwifi.org/wiki/UserDocs/Distro/RedHat)

But when i type :
Code:
modprobe ath_pci
I get:
Code:
FATAL: Error inserting ath_pci (/lib/modules/2.6.15-1.1830_FC4/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/madfiwi/ath_pci.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
dmesg:
Code:
ath_pci: Unknown parameter `autocreate'
If anyone could help me with this to i would be gratful, and thanks axelseap for trying to help.

so if you run system-config-network and click on new, the card doens't show up under wireless devices? does it show up in any other category? you shouldn't need to modprobe madwifi

No it doesn't find the card anywhere in any category. I remembered that i added a few lines to modprobe.conf and when i removed them i was able to use modprobe ath_pci but it still didnt show up.
