ipw2200 improperly recognized

ok here is my problem, I recently upgraded my kernel and installed all the new rpms I would need for the new kernel. Now when I try to install my wireless card it is only detected as a wired ethernet card.

kernel 2.6.14-1.1656_FC4

rpms installed
ipw2200 1.0.10-36.rhfc4.at
ipw2200-firmware 2.4-7.at
ipw2200-kmdl-2.6.14-1.1656_FC4
ieee80211-kmdl-2.6.14-1.1656_FC4

steps installing the card
ran system-config-network
clicked new
clicked wireless
nothing there
went back
clicked ethernet
and there is "Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2915ABG miniPCI Adapter (eth1)

any ideas of what I did wrong?
