FC4 and FC5t2-cannot see gui after install

All -

I am undoubtedly going to be accused of not searching for this answer, but I have done so. However, I am getting too many hits about other issues and not mine, even though I just know that mine is a very common problem. Anyway...

I ahve tried installing FC4 and FC5t2 on my HTPC with a Nvidia 6600 PCI-Express card (in prep for Mythtv), but the screen is messed up. When I install, I have to use the text install (because the graphical install is garbled) and when the system reboots after install to go into First Time Configuration, I can tell a gui is there, but it is just large vertical white bands - completely illegible.

I cannot figure out what boot options or install options might allow this to work, nor any way to switch runlevel so that I can try to tweak the refresh rates or whatever to permit it to show a picture on my HDTV.

This has always been my problem with trying Fedora on this HTPC. It was a common problem with most distros, but in the last 6 months most of them install and boot just fine now. I'd really like to use Fedora here - any suggestions?

Does no one have any advice here? Is this harder than I anticipated?

You might need to keep it in text and do a yum update and then install new nvidia drivers doing:
