Squid Proxy Server / How to Filter

Well,

I've got a Squid server up and running with a SquidGuard redirect. I'm using SquidGuards blacklist. Now no offence to the SquidGuard people because SquidGuard kicks a$$ but there black list... well sucks. If I go to google and do a seach for porn and just start going to web sites it might block half. Unfortunaltly that just will not do. Again no offence to the SquidGuard people.

So what I'm wondering is a way to do content filtering. I'm pretty sure I could do a much better job of blocking web sites with a content filter then just a blacklist. I was doing some reading and it doesn't look like squidguard is capable of this. So my questiong is:

Can SquidGuard do content filtering and if not is there another program that I can redirect from SquidGuard to do this? Or is my only option just to switch to a program that will allow me to do this?

Any help would be great
Thanks
Eric

I've used dansguardian before for a similar purpose, and it works in concert with squid. see http://dansguardian.org/

Ok,

So I'm doing a little reading here about Danguardian. It seems to be a better app...Is it? However I am a little confused I see a lot of people using it in conjunction with SquidGuard... WHY? I don't understand why you would do that. It seems it does all that SquidGuard does and more... or am I missing something?

I can't compare both since I haven't used squidguard, but I've been very happy with dansguardian, I especially liked the webmin module that allows for easy web-based configuration.

Ok just a Little FYI,

I ended up going with Dansguardian. Let me just say anybody who is undecided between SquidGuard and Dansguardian (I can't speak for smartfilter) there is no contest. Dansguardian is a far superior app. I spent a week getting SquidGuard up and running and it only blocked about 70% of the porn I was testing it with. I haven't been able to fool Dansguardian yet... and it set up in about 20 minutes.

Here's a little test that impressed me. If you go to Google and do a search for porn it will bring up the obvious sites. Ok... on that first page there is a site called Veganporn.com that comes up as a search result. DansGuardian will block everything else on that page but it will let me go to Veganporn.com. Maybe that's not that big of a deal but I was impressed.

Anyway thanks for all the help
Later
Eric

check out www.fedorafriend.org for a little app that automates the squid/dansguardian setup.
