hopefully someone out there can help me, as i have been trying now for almost 2 weeks to install fedora core 3 and fedora core 4 on a local work station to no avail, hopefully this is a problem someone would like to get there teeth into
on a installation of FC3 or FC4, gui and text mode, when the installation has partitioned the drives and starts to install the base o/s with packages, the installation will fail with rpmdb panic: fatal region error detected, run recovery.
i thought this was an issue with the FC4, so i downloaded FC3 and tried the same, i have also burnt several copes incase the iso's were curropt, all have todate passed the verification that the cd's are correct.
i thought there might be a problem with the hadware, so have memtested the 3 x 512 ram sticks, they passed, i thought there might be a conflict with the ABIT BW7 motherboard this machine uses, but windows installs fine, Ubuntu installs fines, everything will install, apart from Fedora Core, which makes this mystery interesting....
i have searched the local forums and done google seraches, but what information i have gleaned, either, does not apply to me or it went straight over my head.
the system in question is a P4 1.4GHZ processor running on an ABIT 7BW motherboard, i would really appreciate your thoughts and comments on this question.
