Smile Fedora Core Enhancement Suggestions

Howdy,

I'm installing FC4 now and would like to suggest some enhancements to the install process. Is this the "right" forum for these suggestions? If not, could someone perhaps suggest where I might submit these suggestions please?

Regards,

George...

Hi George,

This is an enduser forum, so it's better to post your request for enhancement to the fedora-devel-list. It is also possible to request a new feature or an enhancement in the bugzilla.

Bugzilla - http://bugzilla.redhat.com
fedora-devel-list - http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/

Thijs,

Thank you VERY much for this information. I'm afraid that fc4 is NOT going well for me. Numerous panics even with the "garbage" fix and verifying the media...

Oh well. Thanks again for your reply.

Regards,

George...

GioMac,

No I have not made patches.

I have had numerous problems with FC4 installation. Boot cd = panic. Garbage fix boots; install fails randomly. Verify media = panic. Re-burned fc4 cd's; no change in behavoir. Re-downloaded; no change in behavoir. Sha1sum verifies for both downloads.

I'm getting tired of re-entering EVERYTHING to get the install started again. I wanted to suggest that a config defaults file be kept somewhere on the install target so it's contents could be used as defaults to a restartable installation process.

If you get an error with a pkg you should have the option of continuing or retrying instead of having to go back to the beginning and re-entering EVERYTHING once again. This gets very tireing after a while.

I'll be checking for intel firmware upgrades. I have a d865gvhz MB. Maybe it's not fully supported. I'll find this out too.

Thanks for your response.

George...

Boot cd = panic
-------------------------
try to install with additional options like nofb

Verify media = panic
-------------------------
if md5 sum of image is ok, the i think you have burned cd not cleanly or you have hardware problems with your IDE controller, IDE cable or CD-ROM

actually anaconda is not stable (but easy and graphical) installer, but crashes for the 10.2.1.5 versions are minimal as possyble for this moment, self python language is not so stable. im getting some errors when installing on non-clean HDD before formatting step.

in stability i like yast (opensuse), but its to huge and not so portable.

You might also try the FC5 Test 2 release that should come out tomorrow and see if the updates fix your problem.

Mike,

I have questions about FC5 test2. Can I ask these of you or is there a "better" place to do that? I'd like to report my experience so that the "product" can be made better.
