Make menuconfig

I need to run make menuconfig to install some drivers and change some things in the kernel to get my wireless working (FC4).

Which directory do I run this from? I thought I read it was in the source directory inside your kernel directory but I get a flourish of errors running it from there

well if you're running the latest kernel the path would be /usr/src/kernels/2.6.14-1.1656_FC4-i686/ but the problem is that fedora doesn't come with the source so you can't recompile your kernel. you'll have to download the kernel.srpm and install that and set it up. but out of curiosity what wireless card do u have? i'd think that most cards could be used by ndiswrapper or madwifi

I have the intel wireless pro 2200BG. FC4 recognizes it, but not as a wireless card (I can't set up a wireless connection with it, yet it will let me try to set up an ethernet connection with it)
I wanted to try installing the drivers from http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/ here to see if that would fix the problem. But I need to make at least one change before installing or the installation won't go well from what I gather.

Is it possible just to edit the autoconf.h file without rebuilding the kernel?

Actually I read the installation instructions a little deeper, and I guess I don't need to make the changes because the two settings are _MODULE and this is okay. According to it I need to "remove the binary module and relevant include files". It supposedly has instructions for that , so I will forge ahead.

[edit] unless someone has way to get this working?

Thanks. I found this thread here (I always find these things after I post, I must learn to search harder)http://forums.fedoraforum.org/forum/...ghlight=2200BG and ran the steps in it, and it worked. I'm able to connect to my home network, the million dollar question is this:
My college's wireless networks all use LEAP encryption, is it possible to use that?
