issue with sis SiS7012 and Fedora Core 4

Hello! Any help would be very appreciated. I have been searching all over google and it seems that this card tends to be trouble for a lot of people. I dont get any sound. It shows up as being deteted but freezes when i click play test sound. Only the test window locks, not my whole system.

I have typed alsamixer at the console and messed with the settings there.... I didnt really get anywhere.
I have played with the kmixer... turning on and off the channels....

My system recognizes the sound card and loads the sis drivers (snd-intel8x0)

any ideas where to start? I attached a screen shot of the hardware broswer and the sound card settings.
