I'm running Fedora Core 4 and trying to install the new NVIDIA driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8178-pkg1.run, however it fails telling me that I have the wrong gcc version. It seems the yum updated gcc to 4 when it updated the kernel to 2.6.14-1.1653_FC4smp. I tried using the livna.org kernel-module + nvidia-glx but although it installs without a hitch, when I try and start it (init 5) it does nothing and the log shows no errors but tell me that it can find no usable screens.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong. Everything was working fine and I did a yum update and it installed a whole pile of stuff and now I can't get the NVIDIA drivers to work.
