Network Card Not Recg.

FC1, I have a asus motherboard can't remember exact details,
but it's not been recognised.
It's a 3com 2000 model inbuilt to the MB...

I downloaded the driver from the driver cd, howver when i go load it it just says device dooes not exist...
How can I find out the exact IRQ number of this device? Or is there an easier way to fiX?

-Jeffa
( Motherboard was made 10/03 )

Hi, you want to issue:

lspci (as root) and for more info do:
lspci -vv (or just a -v)

This will tell you is if is picked up. You should not need a driver CD? I don't know where you got this form.

You only need to find the correct kernel module and load it.

Post your results.

I can't find, or have I heard of a 3com 2000 card/onboard. Can you find the exact Motherboard make, so I can check the specs out?

According to Google, there is an interesting thread on the 3com driver development mailing list. There are even replies from the driver's author.

Apparantly your NIC, will work with a 3c59x driver.

Try as root:

Code:
modprobe 3c59x
Just to see what happens.

To get the modules version etc.
Code:
modinfo 3c59x
Please, before replying to my post, read everything about the driver on this thread

which starts a few lines down.

Let me know.

Well it looks like itś a no-can-do job... I am going to mess abit with the drivers on the cd, modules rather and see if I can get something from that...

Makes me depressed I have to spend that much on an MB only for the NIC not to work on my perferred choice of OS.

Hi, just wanted to let you know that the patch to 3c59x.c for this card (9202) has been added as of kernel 2.6.8....the relevant patch has also been submitted to the 2.4 tree, I believe.

Also in 2.4.28-bk3, hopefully to be added in 2.4.29.
