How to format hard disk?

Hey guyz... can you tell me how to format a file system or the hard disk? Example I want to format a new hard drive? Or to format a windows partition (NTFS). What commands do i use? I want to use commands rather than GUI. Thanks a lot..... guyzzz!!!

First, start with fdisk /dev/hdx.
Next, make the file system............... mkfs -t ext3 /dev/hdxx

Then add it to /etc/fstab to mount at boot time. That is about it.

Is that all? I mean for example I want to format my C:\ Drive (NTFS)... What command I'll use?

Yes, run fdisk -l and find out which of your hard drives and partitions you C drive occupies. It might be, /dev/hda1.

THen run, fdisk /dev/hda, choose to delete the existing partitions, create a new partition, set the type to Linux and then exit out of fdisk.

Run, the mkfs command to create the file system.

That's it.
