quadro to geforce

Hi all,

A fedora newbie here.

I need to make FC4 quadro to geforce system.

A. Current system:
Precision 470, FC4, quadro fx 3450

B. Old system:
Precison, RH, geforce fx 5700

I've installed Fedora Core 4
on the Precision 470 c/w nvidia quadro fx 3450. Runs fine.

Problem:
When I installed an old and
unsupported weather application software,
some of the textures did not appear.

This app runs fine on the older system.

Is there a way to make the quadro to work ( emulate ) as a geforce ? Or a way to trick the FC4 - that the card is not a quadro but a geforce ?

Thanks.

FN

Which driver are you using? Are you using the standard Linux "nv" driver?
The driver is specified in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
grep Driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf

If you are using the standard driver, you can probably get better performance all around with the nVidia proprietary driver, which you can get from the nVidia web site or from livna.

Hi CrystalCowboy,

Thanks for your reply.

Grep shows ...
Driver "kbd"
Driver "mouse"
Driver "nvidia"

I also ran glxgears ...
67842 frames in 5.0 seconds = 13568.400 FPS
75999 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15199.800 FPS
75924 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15184.800 FPS
76078 frames in 5.0 seconds = 15215.600 FPS
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).

I wish there's a way to make the quadro fx 3450 card to behave as a geforce fx 5700.

All suggestions are more than welcomed.

Thanks.

New events ...

I 've removed the quadro and replaced it with a
Leadtek winfast PX6600LE 256MB pci express
( nvidia NV43V gpu ? ) graphics card.

I 've downloaded NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8174-pkg1.run
from the nvidia website, and installed it.

Ran nvidia-settings and it identified the card correctly.

Ran the application, it still shows the same problem as
the quadro problem,
ie. some layer of texture appears,
but other layer of texture did not appear.

How do i make the 6600 appear as Geforce FX 5700 to this Fedora system ?

Any reply from anyone is appreciated.

Thanks.

regards,

FN
