'K' Menu Icons

Here's a strange one. I ran FC4 with the 'install everything' option. Had everything alls setup, and crashed it. Another story. When I installed new s-ware it would add an icon to the K menu if it was a KDE app.

I did a 'bare' install since I did not want to sit through another 1.5 hour OS install, figured I'd add as I go.

Here's the delema. Icons are no longer being installed in the 'K' Menu. Like NVU. I had to add the shorcut. Doom 3, Super Tux, Frozen Bubble, GXMAME, Bittorret, and several others that make them on the first install, no longer make shortcuts in the 'K' Menu. I have to write one by hand. Not a huge deal mind you, just thought I'd throw it out.

are you installing those packages via yum or an rpm source?? Or are you doing a full source install (./configure yada yada yada)?? If you do it from source, then there will not be an icon installed. If you are doing it via yum, or a FC4 built rpm then the icon should be installed. Might also want to try logging out, and then logging back in to see if it update KDE.

Thanks for the response. Those were installed via YUM. I've noticed if installed via source, it don't, but that is understandable. However, to install something via YUM from FC4 -extra- should install one.

As stated, not a huge thing, just a quirk I thought might have a quick fix. Like I said thought, I did a min/bare install instead of a 'full copy everything' install, and maybe there's an option I did not install or something.

No frets, OS performing flawlessly in other areas. The IMPORTANT areas.

Boggle solved. Upgraded my kernel to 1653 and all seems aok. Installed Frozen Bubble and it made a 'K' menu icon....

Strange? yeah.. But normalcy is for the weak.

Yes, I've found myself still doing a 'custom' install and taking the time to go into each category's 'details' to add and remove programs there - getting better at it; this time I had very few additions. Of course, if you've slashed and burned as many times as I have......

Just a follow up. This error has been resolved with a kernel update. Dunno why, just a thing I suppose. Just wanted to say that it's taken care of.
