grab the xmms-mp3plug-in

yum install xmms-mp3

open xmms

hit CTRL + P

find the MPEG Layer 1/2/3 Placeholder Plugin

uncheck the box to disable it

find the MPEG Layer 1/2/3 Player 1.2.10 libmp3.so

check the box to enable it

restart xmms and play away

Or if you use vlc
vlc should have support for mp3 out of the box

yum install videolan-client
