FC4 updates, wireless settings and screen resolution

Hi all,
I started updating FC4 2.6.11.. using yum. It suddenly stopped and the message was "sqllite:database is full". I worked for quite some time no benefit. Later on I tried to update by up2date and yum again but this time it is giving some file errors. Then I could not even log in. Today I came and I loggen in. I do not know whats going on. I actually wanted to setup wireless connection, but it does not even detect the wireless card. I am using dell inspiron 6000 (15.4" WXGA). I have resolution problems also. I will highly appreciate your help...

For the SQL update error, try shutting down SQL and then run "yum update" as root. Can you provide the output when you are trying to run the update? If you don't know how to post it you can try the following:
-open a xterm
-as root type "script update_log"
-now type "yum update"
-once update has finished or error off press "ctrl + c"
-type "cat update_log"
-finally select the output and post it on the forum.

As for Wifi support, first you need to find out what chipset it is based on. For example, Atheros based chipsets use MadWifi, and Prism2 based chipsets use Orinoco drivers. Both of these drivers are easy to install by using "./configure", "make", "make install" and "modprobe ***_pci".

Your display problem seems to be driver related. Then again I don't know what GPU you are using.

FC4 resolution issue

I actually became impatient and I reinstalled FC4. But still I can not get 1200X800 resolution. I am just getting 800x600 and lower. I browzed through the threads and tried to configure i810 but to no benefit. It does not even let me choose a desired monitor (from display--> hardware---->monitor). Anyways, I have downloaded i915 drivers from intel support site. I moved the tar file and the rpm file to /lib/modules........../drivers/video. I do not know what to do with rpm file. The readme file suggest a command (rpm -i filename) but it also tells to ensure that the X server should not running be running. I do not know how to do it. I will appreciate your help.......

you can leave the RPM file in your home directory. Open a terminal and as root type /sbin/init 3 ... this will drop you out of X. Once you're out of X, as root type rpm -ivh <<filename.rpm>>

Cheers,
KD
