Belkin Wireless Card

After much searching and researching I have found what appears to be a most excellent solution to make my Fedora see my Belkin F5D6051 USB wireless adapter. Is this what I want to do? Is this somthing a Linux novice should attempt or does anybody know of a better option?

Quote:

For posterity or anyone else dealing with this in the future:

Begin by making sure the device is unplugged, and leave it unplugged until directed below
1) Goto linux-lc100020.sourceforge.net
2) Use CVS to get the most recent copy of the ZD1201 driver (not the wlan-ng that is on the main DL)
3) Get a 2.9 kernel
4) Patch the 2.9 kernel using the 2.8.1 diff file from the ZD1201 driver directory
5) Build the kernel
6) Deploy the kernel
7) Reboot
8) Go to the directory with the ZD1201 driver
9) If you are using the Belkin, make sure that the zd1201.c file has a USB ID for the Belkin (latest one is supposed to)
10) run "make"
11) run "make install"
12) copy the zd1201.fw file to the directory your distribution uses for hotplug (/usr/lib/hotplug/firmware in many cases)
13) Reboot
14) Plug in the device
15) dmesg should show it was recognized and loaded
16) iwconfig and such to get things going

FWIW,
Ewan

OK
I found a tutorial and got tar.gz files, unpacked them and hit 'make'. It says it cannot find a firmware folder. Reading around online it seems I need firmware and drivers. I think I have firmware...but Im not sure....
Then I started reading on ndiswrapper. Followed the official tutorial, but when I try to 'make' that it says it cannot find the kernel source code. I found more instructions on how to link the source code but it appears that the code itself is not here, how do I find the code and put it where it needs to be?

The kernel sources can be found at the official Fedora Core download site under /[FCver]/SRPMs.

ie: http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...69_FC4.src.rpm

Fedora no longer ships with the sources. All the sources can be found on the SRPM .isos, but you can hand pick the ones you want from their download site as well.

You might also look under updates if you have updates your kernel. just look for the SRPM folder under your version number to find the kernel sources.

All kernel sources on this site will be listed as kernel.<ver>_FC<ver>.src.rpm

Hope this helps,
tykale
