accessing fedora server from windows XP

I have just installed fedora core 4 as a server on an old pc so I can use it as a web server. I do not have any monitor, keyboard, mouse etc. attached just a stand-alone tower. At the moment if I wish to use it I have to connect the necessary hardware from my main computer. I wish to access it via a crossover cable from my main pc using something like putty so from there I can control it.

Is this possible? If so how do I retrieve the necessary IP address etc.?

check out a program called synergy it is free and will allow you to use your primary keyboard, mouse, and even clipboard on networked machines using the ethernet connection

Any ideas on how will connect to my fedora box from windows pc. I am not sure how to get the ip address. I have a feeling I should have specified one when I installed Fedora?

if its a server you should specify one, DHCP for a server is not really a good idea

chances are its one higher or lower than your windows machine so you could try to ping likely addresses like so

windows: 192.168.1.100 so if you linux machine came up after it would be 192.168.1.101 if it came up before it would be 192.16.1.99

of course your IP addresses could be a differant format but if you really wanted to know for sure just plug a keyboard into the linux machine and login then do /sbin/ifconfig
