clean install - yum update hangs on openssh-ask..

I am installing FC4 x86_64 clean on laptop. The install completes with no errors. Next I update
using yum (yum -y update) and three times it has hung on openssh-askpass-gnome update...

on this last clean install I noticed that I cannot get 'SU" to work (hangs on password input)
Any thoughts on a solution before I kill the yum update?. the last two times I killed the process
and I think I am only getting a few updates(287) .

is this correct fora ?

Thanks,
Ba.

command line
df -ah
see how much hard drive room ya have available (low disk space makes yum shoot craps--probably not this--but...)
if plenty--then do this first!!
yum update yum
then try the normal update
yum update
