Good idea about FC5 ISO's
OK, I know that the Fedora devs are trying to keep the Fedora CD's down to 4, which is a great idea. But, I have an idea that may, or may not, help. I was recently looking at other distros's ISO lists and noticed a lot of them have a "netinstall" ISO. How hard would this be to do in Fedora? If I had a choice of downloading 4x700Mb ISO's or one 100Mb ISO for a net install.. you can bet I'd be going for the 100Mb ISO. Shorter download time, requires only one CD, no CD "swapping" during the install, etc. Lots of good reasons to so this. Hopefully, someone on the Fedora dev team will read this. Just my 2 cents, but it seems like a great idea to me.

Completely agreed. As far as I know, there are no standard netinstall isos accompanying FC releases. Two weeks ago I decided to give Debian Sarge a try next to FC4 and experiences have been very good until now. One thing I liked was the easy availability of a netinstall iso, among other benefits.

moved to Fedora Development - Note: Since you're looking to reach developers, you may also want to communicate as described here: http://fedora.redhat.com/participate/communicate/

You can use the "rescue" CD to start a net install of Fedora, AFAIK.

nope, i hate that idea.
1. some people still use dialup
2. it costs bandwidth
3. i have 6 fedora machines within my family, so i'd prefer to download 4x700mb isos than 1x700mb iso + 6x 3x700mb (full install is usually everything from 3 cd's)
personally i like the dvd iso, 2.5gb, no disk swapping, and hey there's 2gb left for more stuff on the dvd-r

I wouldn't at all argue to replace the four-cd or dvd download by a netinstall, but I think users may benefit from a coexistence of these options.
In particular, when one needs to install on multiple machines, it's probably easier to download the whole thing once and then install from it multiple times. But when there are just one/two computers to maintain, a netinstall may be welcome. In the latter case, downloading the full thing is also kind of a waste of bandwidth i.m.o.

Fedora has a net installation option available right from the first release. You might want to read the installation guide

Thanks for the link! We should read better!
So suppose I would want to do a netinstall over the internet. Then I should give as server name the name of e.g. the ftp server that I normally use to download the full isos?

I really dont like the netinstall, I would use it at home, but its impossible at work as we have a http proxy that isnt controlled by us so a netinstall is screwed there. I still like the DVDs as they are the best was to get the distro out but i still have 2 download 4 cds for one machine lol.

Yes download boot.iso image, boot with linux askmethod. Specify http/ftp and provide the base url
A specify example is available from the testing guide for the development version.

Which is why there is always a choice of a net installation, CD or DVD for every Fedora release. Choose and use what fits your needs.

if this is not already reported, file a enhancement request in http://bugzilla.redhat.com against anaconda in Fedora-devel version
