How to play videos online

Whenever I go to a site that plays videos, it keeps telling me I have a missing plugin. I have mplayer and Xine and want to know what I need to do to configure them to play the videos online if that is possible. Sorta like M$'s Mediaplayer did in firefox on XP. Thanks for the help.

intall the real player plugin for firefox.
