Wrong password after 'SU'

I can log in as 'root' in KDE and my password works fine. However, if I log in as a user and then 'SU' in console, then it won't accept the same password (that works when I log in as root). What gives?

have you check the keyboard configuration for both users ?
last time, i spent 2 days with this issue

Both root and the user account look the same (104 key layout, US style) per the KDE settings.
