Question Fedora NOT 100% GPL? & Attention to developpers/advertissement team

Hai there,
first thing, I can't live without fedora core.
so i hate hearing bad things about fedora core

i was at my friends place, last night.
He had suse 9.2 installed and a linux magazine.
In this particular magazine, it compared between some various Linux OS.
In the fedora section, it identifies fedora as a least-stable OS of any RPM Based OS.
And fedora has not yet really impressed europeans.
but in the debian section, it says that debian is 100% GPL

My first question is how far is FC with the GPL/LGPL license? isn't it 100%?

Secondly,
In my local LUG, im the only one with the FC OS, most of them are using debian based OS.
We are planning in this february an "OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE DAY" similar to the german's "LINUXTAG". Im not yet communicated about the amount of money being invested.

In June 2005, in karlsruhe there was a linuxtag. And fedora core was part of the red-hat advertissement team. some developpers were present. Since i stated before (from the particular magazine) that fedora core has not yet impressed europeans, I wonder if there is a way to advertise fedora core. I mean if i can ask some kind of association/company to send me free stickers or any promotional material associated to FC to this open source event. Or even some fedora developpers could be present to support FC in that day/s?

thanks.

Fedora is supposed to be 100% open-source but the Free Software Foundation doesn't consider it 100% Free. Hope someone can clarify this.

I would have to argue about that one. Reason: MP3 encoding/decoding is patented. Debian avoid that issue being a non-profit organization while Fedora, sponsored by Red Hat (a US company that makes profit), cannot. In that case, that statement is not true.

Probably due to Mozilla license. However, the source is available and free to modify. Only restriction is the name (trademark).

For the first question, Every software included in both Fedora Core and Extras is under a open source license. Second, You might want to join the Fedora Marketing Project for evangelising Fedora

Well.. I guess it depends on how you define debian?

sqlite is available at packages.debian.org and that is public domain, not GPL.

There are loads of different open source licenses.

Not even GNU is 100% GGPL. There's some GLGPL in GNU and there's The X Window System.

GPL does not equal to Free Software. For a software to be classified as Free Software, it must fufill the 4 freedom requirements.

1: The freedom to run the program, for any purpose.
2: The freedom to study how the program works, and adapt it to your needs. Access to the source code is a precondition for this.
3: The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor.
4: The freedom to improve the program, and release your improvements to the public, so that the whole community benefits. Access to the source code is a precondition for this.

This is where Open-Source licenses and Free Software licenses differ as there are some open-source licenses that dont fully comply with these freedoms.

Since
1. this french magazine saying that FC has not yet impressed Europeans users,
2. Im a member to the local LUG and,
3. we (the lug) are planning to launch a "Free Day" in 5-7 May 2006.
Yes, I live in France (Strasbourg ).
I wish to know a little more about how it goes with the invitation of the FC developpers and Marketing teams to our event knowing the fact that we don't have a large budget, so that I could talk to the other members about my plan to have a Fedora Core booth with real FC developpers and Marketing teams.

The presence of a Fedora Core booth (even if its with the Red Hat Team) could really attract and make aware to the public that Fedora Core is not only a platform for developping the RHEL.

I have read http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing and joined the mailing list as well.
