Question Compaq presario v2000 wireless help

ok so i got ndiswrapper installed and i got the bcmwl5.nf file all set up. It recognizes the broadcom wireless card in the laptop. Only problem is that wth this laptop, there is a button to turn the wireless card on and off, and i cant seem to turn it on in linux. In bios there is an option to have wireless enabled, but that does nothing. There isnt anything in the /etc/ndiswrapper/bcmwl5 .conf files about enabling radio, or powering up the card.

i was just wondering if there was anybody who had this laptop that has a solution

I have a v2000 also: V2312us AMD Turion64 with Broadcom Wireless.

You cannot turn on the wireless by the button until the ndiswrapper module is loaded.

Try:
Code:
modprobe ndiswrapper
then try using the button. It works fine with mine.

If your button is still not working, try loading windows first and turning on the wireless card then reboot to linux. Then when loading the ndiswrapper the card should be still on.

I have same laptop but the connection dies from time to time.....I am using correct drive but I also have an atheros chipset based card so I am sticking to that...

BTW, load driver as mention about and will work.

I am so lost! I have the exact same problem as the first person. I know this was a while ago that these threads were posted, but I'm hoping that someone could explain to me what exactly to do. I am pretty much clueless when it comes to computers...

Hello chamkj01

Welcome to the Forum.

You've joined a particularly old thread here and wireless is one of the subjects that has advanced greatly since then.

If you open a terminal window and type:

Code:
/sbin/lspci
the return will tell us a lot about the equipment in your machine.

Copy and paste back the parts that refer to 'network' and 'ethernet' and we'll see what is the best approach for you.
