Question Multi-card Reader Panel on HP Pavilion Desktops?

I recently purchased an HP Pavillion a1130e which has a 64-bit AMD processor. I have partitioned the hard drive and have it dual booting XP and Fedora Core 4 64. This machine is using an ATI chipset with on-board video, sound, and ethernet. I have the video working (vesa...ugh), the Ethernet just worked, the sound just worked, and I had to boot with ACPI-off to get the SATA drive to show up.

My next challenge is to get the 9-in-1 card reader on the front panel to work. My wife has an older AMD based system (also HP) with a very similar "Front Productivity Panel" on it. I have tried Knoppix-live, UBUNTU, and others in the past with no luck at all. Now With my own system, I would like to see what can be done. I see nothing in DMESG or /var/log/messages that would sound like the card reader or activity on any hardware when I plug in a flash card or an SD card.

I have done various google searches and have come up empty....Oh, it works when I boot into XP.

Anyone ever get this working or have ideas about where else to look for clues?

Thanks,

Rick

Okay, I see enough people have viewed this and no-one had a suggestion. Since I did find a solution, I will post it here.

Turns out that the bios setting "Plug and Play OS" was set to yes. One of the bios settings I have long ago learned had to be turned off is the plug and play OS setting in the bios. Now USB and the multicard reader work GREAT!

Of course, that did not solve my problem on my NS6000 laptop's SD card reader.
