FC4 on toshiba satellite A30-921

I wanted to use linux for programming so i installed FC4 on my laptop which is a toshiba satellite a30-921

I have a problem with touchpad and sound.. after searching on this site, i found thread with following messages

, I have to buy a USB adapter because the touch pad pass undetected. When I run Eclipse as a normal user, run good but, when i try to execute as root the system hang . The card has been detected but the probe sound failed . Anyway, I can run eclipse, java,firefox, ethereal, nmap, nasm and other interesting tools !!!

Touch pad works for all toshiba laptops if you disable emulation in BIOS. Reply for more info on this. For sound you have to enable external amplifier or unmute it, search on google for it. No idea about eclipse but root login is not recommended.

I have some questions

a) how would you go about disabling emulation in bios?

b) would disabling emulation in bios affect anything? (espacially anything important)
