newbie's doubt - valknut

hi,
i am quite new to linux. i am using FC4. my comp is on LAN and we use valknut as a sharing software. earlierly it used to work fine but yesterday night somehow my ip was taken by some other pc. so i was forced to change my ip. (first of all, how is it allowed for that pc to take the ip which is already in use? )
then when i reconnected to valknut i made the necessary ip changes in the settings. it did not give any error but i am not able to download anything from anyone. ppl are able to upload stuff from me, i am able to browse thru files etc. but i am not able to download anything. i thought that its some valknut problem and i did the following.

rpm -e valknut.
strangely it removed valknut but when i reinstalled using
rpm -ivh valknut.....rpm and started valknut my old settings were still there and the old problem persisted.
can someone help me with how to get rid of valknut completely and begin like a fresh installation? also, can i rectify this problem without removing valknut?

try removing the folder ~/.dc and then reinstalling it.
also if that doesn't work, check out linuxdcpp
it's a dc++ port for linux, and works really well
